Hair We Go

Hair accessories are fun ways to spice up your dominican doobie wraps or add a touch of class to a classic updo. Here are some hair accessories that you can use to change up your hair style.
I personally love head bands, but I try to stay away from headbands with bows and flowers on them because I begin to look like a 12-year old.
Garcelle Beauvais' headband gives her the image of a Greek Goddess! It is the perfect accessory for her long locks

Decorative hair pins, clips and push-back combs are perfect for holding your flawless swoop in place! If you do not want to use an actual clip, comb, or pin, use a flower like Billie Holiday. My best friend is a fan of this look. If we are walking and she sees a flower next thing I know the flower she was admiring was in her hair...lol

Tyra's Butterfly Clip is the perfect accessory. The earrings and necklace were not needed because they would have clashed with the dress, so the hair clip accessorizes the outfit nicely.
The decorative scrunchie puts a whole new twist on the classic pony tail. The "Goody" brand colorful bobo's are to juvenile. Sometimes a plain scrunchie doesn't cut it! On those humid or rainy days or any day where you are experiencing "hair trauma" rock a pony with one of these and it will glam up any hairstyl and any outfit.
The good thing about hair accessories is that they are very inexpensive. You can find any of these at your local beauty supply store, Target, Walmart, Duane Read or Rite Aid, even Forever21 and H&M have tonse of accessories to revamp your hair.

Oooh Girl You Got Indian In Your Family?

Chris Rock is a genius, finding a new and innovative way to tackle an issue that has been affecting the Black Community for decades!!! What is "Good Hair?"

If you do not have access to youtube at work, please watch this when you get home"

In my ignorance I have used this term plenty of times before, and even to this day I may say "oooh you got that good hair" jokingly, because I have learned that there is no such thing as "GOOD HAIR!" I remember every other Sunday, my mom would use a hot comb to straighten my hair along with my sister's hair. I HATED IT!!! The smell, the steam, and the grease burning my scalp, it was painful, but my hair was, and still is, extremely thick and coarse. So my mom had to use the hot comb to make my hair more manageable ( shout out to Madame CJ Walker for this). I think I was in 5th grade when I got my first perm and I wasn't using PCJ for too long either.

People of African decent have a unique hair texture. I absolutely love it because we can do so many things with our hair that people of other races are unable to do. When I travel to the caribbean there are so many caucasians on the beach trying to get cornrows, even Asians! We are fortunate enough to have a hair texture that can be worked into multiple styles. There is no other race that can have an afro one week, the Hawaiian silky the next, kinky twist the next, and locs within a few months!

The term "good hair" just creates a complex within African-American girls, which causes some type of insecurity. My sister's hair texture is slightly different from mine. Her hair gets a little wavy and curly when its time for a touch-up, my hair, along with my mom's, gets very coarse and thick. Yeah some times my kitchen is a little reckless but its nothing that Precise can't handle lol (the relaxer that I use), but that does not mean her hair is better than ours.

We should not focus on "good hair" but focus on promoting young girls to have "HEALTHY HAIR" That is what is important. Whether or not you are natural or you are a fan weaves, keeping your hair healthy is what is important because who really wants to walk around the street without any edges or a stingy ponytail! When I was in 7th grade (going into 8th) I went to Florida and I swore I was a mermaid and I was in the pool everyday! Unlike my sister I didn't feel like washing my hair and my hair fell out. I was devastated, but I didn't take care of it. My mom ended up putting my hair in a "pony tail" and she cut off all of my dead ends. It was horrible. I ended up getting braids for about a year and a half. Every 6-8wks I would get a different style and that made my hair so healthy. During the spring of my 1st year in high school I was able to get my hair relaxed and it was long, luscious, and beautiful! I had to learn about healthy hair the hardway, but I'm glad I learned that lesson.

Everyone is not meant to have hair down their backs. Weaves are very damaging if they are not put in correctly or taken care of. So Ladies, lets not encourage the use of the term "good hair" "healthy hair" is more appropriate. My best friend has locs, just because she no longer relaxes her hair does that mean it is not "good?" We must accept the different textures and styles and just make sure that it is healthy. Oh yeah and fellas listen to the men in the movie....keep ya hands out of our hair...unless you are going to take me to get another Dominican Wash & Set.!

I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS!!!

Do tha Wispy Twist

Wispy Twist
A classic with lots of flirty, floaty pieces-definitely date-night material! Starting from the bottom of your hair, tightly twist & roll it up toward the crown of your head: pin it in place. Tuck the ends under & secure those with more pins. Now pull out a few strays to complete the finish. Celebs rock it too!
I love wearing my hair like this, especially when I want that innocent school-girl look, (i.e add nerd glass & red lips )

Hot-Mess Updo

Forget about a master plan- let this mellow style take shape as you go. It's perfect. If you don't want to be too dolled up, opt for this. Wanna attempt it, twirl a piece of hair, lift it up to your head, coil into a loose loop & bobby-pin down the end. Keep going until all hair is up, then hit with a light spray. Be as effortless as possible.

Pull a few loose strands so it doesn't look so neat. Add a headband

Fight tha Frizz

Ever had one of those days when you come outside looking all cute with your fresh dubee & before you can even reach your destination your hair goes, "KUPUT" or "POOF". Try these surefire ways to Fight tha Frizz! For sleekness, some hair pros swear by dark beer-poured on just-washed hair, rinsed out after two minutes & followed by conditioner. (Take a swig if absolutely can't resist). Try a weekly coconut-oil scalp massage; it's how Indian women keep their hair silky smooth.

For a midday touch-up, dab a drop of hand cream onto frizzy spots.
To protect hair from the drying, frizz-inducing sun, wear a hat!

Snip, Snip, Snip

Ciara caught the bug too!!! Her style is more "user friendly" so to speak. It is for the more practical fashionista!
I think it looks great! It definitely gives her an edgier look
Thos cheek bones...omg I never noticed before the cut...seriously
Everyone is just picking up a pair of scissors and clippers and going WILD. Ladies this may be your motivation to go the extra mile and take that risk but once again they are CELEBRITIES. Ciara can have hair down to her back tomorrow if she wanted it. Before you get scissor happy think about it. If you are just the live life on the edge type...GO FOR IT!!!! :-)

Simone Says....Shave Your Head

Ok so the girls over in the UK have been doing this for years...thanks Kesh...but recently Cassie and LaLa have jumped on the bandwagon. Guess who got the "I'm gonna shave my head" bug next....RIHANNA!!!!!

Her confidence allows her to pull off any look! Ladies this is where we need to be if we are not there yet. (I'm talking about confidence not shaving your head)
Cute booties!
Cute earrings and shades
I must say...she is OWNING THIS LOOK!!! As much as I don't want to like it because it has become too trendy...Rihanna's (I can't believe I'm using this word) swag is impeccable! She is really owning this ROCK STAR look. I can't believe she did this. It is not like Miss Fenty to (I can't believe I'm using this either) "swagger jack" but she is definitely in a league of her own now.

Now I'm going to be forced to see 3001 chicks walking the streets of New York with this look. Ladies, it is great to take chances and risks, but seriously think about your future and your careers before you go shaving your head. These celebrities can afford to have $1000 wig created for them if they want to switch up their look. I am not one to follow hair trends, besides the bang or a bob, but if you do more power to you! SEND US THE PICS of you rockin your new "do"

What do you think?

Go Out With A Bang!

Bangs
I love long bangs but personally for me in the Summer they're a bit hot especially bcuz I have this natural power walk I can't seem to shake, so it's a bit hot on my forehead...otherwise I heart them. Not only do long bangs look good & reek extreme sex appeal, they cover your bushy eyebrows when your trying to get them full again cuz Ming Lee took too much off & you always look surprised.Cut uneven bangs-the blunt kind appear too heavy these days. Go below the brow. It's versatile; wear bangs back & they disappear, for more humid days, when you want hair away from your face.

Monday

Shaggy

The Sideswept Shag
It's Summertime & sometimes we crave a new cut to spice things up or just opt for a change from the ordinary . Why not try the Sideswept Shag? This remix of the classic bob is all about layers. Ask for longer strands on the sides & angled fringe. Asymmetrical bangs adds sex appeal, & after blow drying is done, just shake it out, no brushing a brush will flatten it. These celebs have shagged the look!

You Better Work It Out!

Found this little article on BlackVoices...I know that it will definitely help those who get their work out on Owwwww...lol...Enjoy

Most women I know have issues with their hair after working out -- save those with braids or a very short cut (think Amber Rose). Those with perms, weaves, wigs and even locs complain that the heat, combined with the sweat and having to essentially redo your hair each time you work out, is an issue. Celebrity stylist Caprice Green gives us five ways to keep our hair fresh while working out, including products she swears by!

Caprice Green: These tips are not surefire, but they will assist you in maintaining a decent style at least until your next salon appointment. Ready?

1. PONYTAIL, PONYTAIL, PONYTAIL!Don't be afraid to pull your hair back into a ponytail. This will discourage your hair from curling up at the roots. It's easier to smooth out the crinkle from the ponytail holder than it is to smooth out your entire hair at the roots.

2. WRAP, WRAP, WRAP!After your workout, before you shower, wrap your hair and top it with your favorite silk scarf. This will smooth out any hair that may have gotten a little damp during your workout.
3. Only Use Heat If Absolutely Necessary. If your hair is not the type to cooperate, be sure to mist hair with a nontacky thermal protectant prior to whipping out your flat iron. My favorite right now is CHI Thermal Protectant because it is essentially weightless. Excessive heat use breaks down the bond in your hair and will eventually result in breakage. If your edges are still being unruly, my go-to product is HICKS TRANSFORMATIONS Smooth Edges. When used sparingly, only on edges (hairline), the result will look like you just got a fresh relaxer! Love it!

4. Skip the Bone-Straight Look and Try a Style With Body. Once your pin-straight style begins to swell from the five miles on the treadmill (or two miles in my case): * try taking 1/2 inch partings* lightly spritz each section with a lightweight setting lotion (i.e., OPTIMUM) keeping one inch off of your roots to avoid any additional curling* smooth lightly misted hair onto perm rod, again roll to one inch away from roots* sit under dryer until completely dry...or else face the frizz!* once dry, carefully remove rods and separate each piece two to three times with a small amount of shine drops on your finger tips (an excellent, nongreasy brand is by KENRA). The result will be a full-bodied almost naturally curly look.
5. Succumb to the Curl! There is a plethora of products on the market right now designed to enhance your specific curl pattern. My absolute favorite is the MIXED CHICKS line, specifically the leave-in, but for optimum results start with the shampoo and conditioner.* For a thicker, kinkier texture, opt for MISS JESSIE'S Curly Pudding.* If you don't have a curl pattern at all, skip the relaxer and opt for a texturizer. Begin to discover how to work with the natural pattern of your hair.
Try DESIGN ESSENTIALS Compositions Foaming Wrap Lotion to set your hair into a more natural-looking style. All in all, no advice is foolproof. Just don't sacrifice your workout while trying to maintain your hair style. Be brave and try something new! (All products mentioned in article can be found online or in your local beauty supply.)
I always wrap my hair or rock a pony tail when I work out and it does help....so ladies give it a try and let us know what worked for you :-)

Sleek & Chic

Sleek Ponytails: Go for polished & simple. Try a part down the middle (I'm gonna try this one)

Addind a holder adds a cool twist to an otherwise ordinar ponytail
